Meze Audio — handcrafted headphones from Romania

Meze Audio was founded in 2011 in Baia Mare, Romania, and quickly made a name for itself with the 99 Classics as one of the most beautiful and best-sounding headphones in the mid-price segment. Meze combines handcrafted wooden housings, in-house developed drivers and a warm, pleasant sound character made for hours of musical enjoyment. At Audio Everywhere we stock the 99 Classics and the 109 Pro.

What makes Meze Audio special

Meze designs and manufactures every headphone itself — from the wooden housing to the diaphragm. The result is a sound described as "analogue warm": rich in detail without harshness, strong in bass without bloat. The Meze 99 Classics has won multiple awards and is regarded as one of the best-sounding headphones under 400 euros. The 109 Pro is the open-back sibling for audiophile home listeners.

Who are Meze headphones suited to?

Meze suits music lovers who spend a lot of time with headphones and weight comfort and sound equally. Especially for jazz, soul, singer-songwriter and classical music — less so for critical mixing. The 99 Classics can also be used on the move, while the 109 Pro is a pure home headphone.

Frequently asked questions about Meze Audio

Do I need a headphone amplifier for the Meze 99 Classics?
No — the Meze 99 Classics can be driven directly from a smartphone, laptop or HiFi amplifier. For the 109 Pro we recommend a small headphone amplifier to realise its full potential.

What is the difference between the Meze 99 Classics and the 109 Pro?
The 99 Classics is a closed-back headphone — good for on the move, with a bass-forward sound. The 109 Pro is open-back — more sense of space and naturalness, but not suited to use on the move.

What wood are the Meze 99 Classics housings made from?
Meze uses walnut wood for the standard version. The wood is worked in Romania and every housing is a one-off with its own individual grain.
