Description

Teac VRDS-701 CD Player

The Teac VRDS-701 is a CD player with a VRDS drive mechanism and a discrete DAC. It handles CD, CD-R, CD-RW and MQA-CD and can also be used as a USB DAC.

Drive and Construction

  • VRDS mechanism: the disc is clamped to an aluminium turntable of the same diameter to reduce rotational vibration and lower read errors.
  • Bridge section made of stiff, lightweight material with single-sided mounting to reduce transmitted vibration.
  • Semi-floating mounting of the CD mechanism on the sub-chassis to isolate motor and external vibration.
  • Three supporting pinpoint feet made of machined steel.

Conversion and Processing

  • TEAC ΔΣ (Delta Sigma) discrete DAC based on FPGA. DSD signals are left unchanged; PCM is converted into 1-bit signals via a ΔΣ modulator.
  • Playback of up to 22.5 MHz DSD and 384 kHz/32-bit PCM.
  • MQA Core decoder for MQA-CDs as well as MQA data via the digital inputs and in USB DAC mode.
  • RDOT-NEO with 2×, 4× and 8× upconversion (up to 384 kHz).

Output Stage and Volume

  • Dual-mono structure with independent toroidal transformers for the left and right channels.
  • Fully balanced signal path from D/A conversion to the output stage.
  • TEAC-QVCS: analogue volume control in 0.5 dB steps from -95 dB to +24 dB. The player can be connected directly to a power amplifier.
  • TEAC-HCLD2 buffer amplifier circuit with diamond buffer amplifiers.
  • Headphone amplifier with a dedicated driver.

Power Supply and Clock

  • Three toroidal transformers for the analogue section, digital control unit and CD mechanism.
  • 10 MHz clock input for synchronisation with an external clock generator.
  • High-precision crystal oscillators for 44.1 kHz and 48 kHz multiples with low phase noise.

Connections

  • USB Type-C for USB DAC operation with Bulk Pet transfer technology (four transfer modes).
  • Analogue outputs: XLR (balanced) and RCA (unbalanced), each switchable to fixed or variable output.
  • Digital outputs: coaxial and optical/Toslink.
  • 6.3 mm headphone jack: 500 mW + 500 mW into 32 Ω.
  • RS-232C as well as trigger input and output for coordination with other devices.

Output Level and Impedance

  • RCA: 2.0 Vrms (0 dB fixed), 4.0 Vrms (+6 dB fixed), 6 Vrms (variable); output impedance 180 Ω.
  • XLR: 2.0 Vrms (0 dB fixed), 4.0 Vrms (+6 dB fixed), 12 Vrms (variable); output impedance 220 Ω.
  • Coaxial: 0.5 Vp-p into 75 Ω.
  • Optical: -24.0 to -14.5 dBm peak.

Dimensions and Weight

  • Dimensions (H × W × D): 11.1 × 44.4 × 33.4 cm.
  • Weight: 11.8 kg.
  • Power consumption: 0.4–40 W.

Scope of Delivery

  • Power cable
  • Remote control (RC-1338)
  • 2× battery (AAA)
  • 3× foot mat
  • Manual
  • TEAC HR Audio Player (software for Windows and macOS)

Safety information

Safety information — Audio Everywhere

These notes apply to all HiFi devices and accessories sold by us.

Electronic devices (amplifiers, streamers, CD players, turntables)

Operate only in dry, enclosed indoor spaces. Avoid moisture, direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Use only the specified mains voltage — do not overload power strips. Do not switch on devices with damaged cables or housings. Keep ventilation slots clear: at least 10 cm distance from walls and other devices. Place stably and securely — no open liquid containers nearby. Keep out of reach of children and pets.

Speakers

Place on a stable surface or suitable stands. No moisture, no direct sunlight. Operate only with matching amplifiers and correctly polarised cables. Do not use as a storage surface. Keep out of reach of children and pets.

Cables (speaker cables, RCA, power cables)

Use only for the intended purpose. Always pull by the plug, never by the cable. Avoid kinks, sharp edges and pressure from heavy objects. Replace visibly damaged cables immediately. Keep out of reach of children and pets.

Accessories (adapters, mounts, cleaning agents, styli, headshells)

Use only according to the manufacturer's instructions. No aggressive cleaning agents, no damp environments. Store small parts safely due to choking hazard. Mount accessories correctly to avoid damage or malfunction.

General notes

Read the operating instructions before use. No unauthorised repairs or opening of devices. Always contact a specialist service for technical problems. We are happy to answer any questions about safe use at any time.
