Description
Teac TN-5BB-M/B Turntable
The Teac TN-5BB-M/B is a semi-automatic belt-drive turntable with a SAEC tonearm and a factory-mounted Ortofon 2M Red cartridge.
Housing
The housing has a multi-layer construction: a 36 mm MDF base plate and a 12 mm plate of synthetic marble. The housing weighs 8.8 kg. The tonearm and platter are mounted on the synthetic marble top plate, while the motor sits on the MDF base plate. These separate structures isolate the tonearm and motor from each other and reduce the transfer of vibrations. Japanese washi paper is used as a spacer between the synthetic marble and the MDF.
Drive
The TN-5BB uses a flat belt that transfers the force of the DC motor to the outer edge of the platter. An optical sensor on the underside of the platter detects the rotation speed; a servo mechanism adjusts the motor accordingly. This Platter Rotation Sensing Servo System (PRS3) provides high rotational accuracy.
- Speeds: 33 ⅓, 45 and 78 rpm
- Wow & flutter: ≤ 0.1 %
Platter
The platter is made of 20 mm acrylic with a diameter of 30 cm and a weight of 1.7 kg. Acrylic and the polyvinyl material of records sit close together in the triboelectric series, which makes electrostatic charging less likely on direct contact. Records can be placed directly on the platter without a mat.
Tonearm
The knife-edge tonearm was developed in cooperation with SAEC. The vertically moving section uses a stainless steel knife edge, while the laterally moving section rests on Japanese ball bearings at two points. The height of the tonearm base is adjustable; the Vertical Tracking Angle (VTA) can be set within a range of 6 mm. The tonearm geometry follows the IEC-recommended Baerwald alignment. The internal wiring uses a cable with a PC-Triple-C conductor from SAEC.
- Effective tonearm length: 223 mm
- Cartridge overhang: 18 mm
- Anti-skating: present
Arm Lifter
A motorised arm lifter raises and lowers the arm at the press of a button. After playback ends, a contactless optical sensor lifts the arm automatically. This function can be switched off for non-standard records.
Cartridge
An Ortofon 2M Red MM cartridge is included, already installed and aligned to the headshell.
- Cartridge type: MM
- Output: 5.5 mV (1 kHz, 5 cm/s)
- Tracking force: 1.8 g
- Cartridge weight: 7.2 g (with headshell 10 g)
- Recommended cartridge weight: 4–13 g (incl. headshell 14–23 g)
Connections
The analog output offers both RCA and XLR sockets. The XLR output is designed for balanced MC transmission and can be connected to external phono stages such as the PE-505.

These notes apply to all HiFi devices and accessories sold by us.
Electronic devices (amplifiers, streamers, CD players, turntables)
Operate only in dry, enclosed indoor spaces. Avoid moisture, direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Use only the specified mains voltage — do not overload power strips. Do not switch on devices with damaged cables or housings. Keep ventilation slots clear: at least 10 cm distance from walls and other devices. Place stably and securely — no open liquid containers nearby. Keep out of reach of children and pets.
Speakers
Place on a stable surface or suitable stands. No moisture, no direct sunlight. Operate only with matching amplifiers and correctly polarised cables. Do not use as a storage surface. Keep out of reach of children and pets.
Cables (speaker cables, RCA, power cables)
Use only for the intended purpose. Always pull by the plug, never by the cable. Avoid kinks, sharp edges and pressure from heavy objects. Replace visibly damaged cables immediately. Keep out of reach of children and pets.
Accessories (adapters, mounts, cleaning agents, styli, headshells)
Use only according to the manufacturer's instructions. No aggressive cleaning agents, no damp environments. Store small parts safely due to choking hazard. Mount accessories correctly to avoid damage or malfunction.
